Cultural Resources Support
FORT STEWART-HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, GA / LG2 Environmental Solutions (LG2) conducted a major cultural resources Phase I survey of over 29,000 acres and delineated 28 additional selected archaeological sites at Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield (Ft Steward-HAAF). Curation, remediation, and rehabilitation were required to correct substandard archaeological collections. Additionally, an evaluation was conducted of 11 facilities at Fort Stewart and two at HAAF that had reached or would soon reach the 50-year age. A condition assessment was also performed for all National Register of Historic Places (NRHP)-eligible buildings. LG2 offered strategies that could be implemented by Fort Stewart-HAAF, in coordination with the Georgia State Historic Preservation Office and interested stakeholders, to produce a Memorandum of Agreement and/or Programmatic Agreement for the purposes of implementing the alternative site mitigation strategies analyzed.
LG2 prepared historic cemetery management plans and developed a GIS and Access Database of more than 111,000 entries for 2,853 grave sites on Fort Stewart-HAAF. The management plans provided history and recommendations for 60 cemeteries. LG2 also prepared a protective management plan to establish long-term monitoring and protective measures to avoid further damage to the NRHP historical fort, Fort Argyle.
