Parking Lot Improvements at Hwy 83 Checkpoint B35, Laredo, TX

The Border Patrol Traffic Checkpoint B35 on Highway 83 supports border enforcement activities in the Laredo Border Patrol sector (LRT) and the region at large. The facility had an unimproved area used as a parking lot that became unusable and unsafe in wet weather. MS2 provided construction management for a new 12,200-square foot parking lot constructed of 3 inches of asphalt on an aggregate base. However, MS2 provided 5 inches of 3,000-psi concrete at no additional cost to the Government because using a nearby asphalt plant allowed the money saved in trucking costs to be used for the concrete. The concrete will provide a better, longer lasting facility without the maintenance required of asphalt.

MS2 also managed the raising of existing utility handholes; subgrade preparation; concrete pavement, striping, and signage; and coordination with the Border Patrol to temporarily relocate and then reinstall existing surveillance equipment within the parking lot footprint.
